I think that’s also why some games with highly developed metas go for frequent ‘balance’ patches.They really serve the opposite purpose- unbalancing everything to restart the discovery process for its players. The wonkier the patch is the better- it keeps the meta in an immature state

I think the issue with istrolid was that the “research” process I just described was essentially just a really cool way of discovering the meta, which eventually stabilized as the game matured, and that discovery aspect of the gameplay disappeared for the top players.
