Swansea boy (= Jack). Well travelled. Corporate financier, M&A deal adviser. Financial lecturer/ trainer. Music, art, books, sport, cycling, mountains. Wine enthusiast.
Wonderful book on multiple levels. Herzog went on to become a Govt minister. Lachenal sadly died not long after (but has a ski run in Chamonix bearing his name).

‘There are other Annapurnas in the lives of men’.

I guess he had quite a lot of practice about fessing up on various things over the years 🤪

Great recommendation! I miss TiboPino too

You’ve got it. We go to see them with a prepared list of chat because we are all phobic about silence and ‘want the meeting to last a long time’. But sometimes they don’t have the bandwidth to process it all, and pausing is (for them) kinder than continuing to witter on. Silence can be golden.

I’m sure you know I was being flippant, but honestly that might be our model in 10 or so years time

And then we can maybe beg the English prem/champ to let us set up a pro team to go into ‘their’ league.

Quoting myself, the Argentina model.

Quite the performance by the WRU to destroy a whole tier of sport, one which few other countries even have; you might, laughably, have thought that pro teams were a competitive advantage worth having.

£61m of opex vs £52m of interest/ fee income isn’t a great look either. £61m buys you a lot of people, offices, Bloombergs etc!

The Roy Jenkins book (which I’m just re-reading) is full of stuff like this. He lived (extravagantly) from hand to mouth well into the 1920s and 1930s, Chartwell was a huge financial extravaganza

And thin markets are easier to manipulate…

What was the change in net debt? (Rhetorical)

That’s a bit of a ‘fucking hell’ moment when you see the score. Massive respect.

That is a fantastic book, eye opening in a good way. Being the engineer is a serious role!

‘Is it working capital, or is it debt’ as thousands of due diligence/ analysts have been tought.

Let’s see the whole balance sheet!
December 12, 2025 at 7:27 PM
I have said it elsewhere but I think we (outside the WRU) have to see the medium term future of Wales as being akin to Argentina: no pro domestic teams and a widespread player group who just come together in the international windows.

Shouldn’t this be in #fesshole

I present a lot (often online). I think hands are fine! Indicative of engagement and enthusiasm.
December 4, 2025 at 2:07 PM
Ospreys follower here. You know what, if the team gets shut down I will just go down Underhill Park to watch Mumbles, or maybe the All Whites. Fck the morons at the WRU: shrinking the business never works.

How do you issue a 100 year MTN?!

Only a matter of time before Pollock gets (a) red carded (b) thumped for general shithousery. Plus (c) dropped by Northampton. The bubble will burst.

The laws rumbled that back in about 1970 after Keith Jarrett (I think) signalled to kick and then tapped. No chance

Bid a £ for each and then they own all three (or four). No one else will play!

Five years time and there will be one region, Cardiff, and below that semi-pro only.

Call it the Argentina model.
