Watched The Conversation and Night Moves this weekend which made for a great Gene Hackman double feature. Compelling character studies by Hackman in each of these films. Both films share common themes exploring trust and paranoia in unique ways with Night Moves more of a neo-noir vibe.

Isle of the Dead (1945) remains increasingly relevant and deserves to be seen by anyone living today who hasn’t seen it. It may not contain the answer to all the world’s problems but the film offers a unique and mature perspective on issues we continue to struggle with to this day.

Watched Before I Hang (1940) from the Karloff at Columbia Eureka set. It may not have the higher aspirations of more notable Karloff features like The Walking Dead or his Val Lewton trilogy but it fits the bill nicely as a fun b-movie. Karloff does a commendable job as his character changes.

We need to admire more people like Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde instead of worshipping malignant narcissists who prey upon the ignorant masses. Compassion, empathy, and mercy are NOT weaknesses. They are strengths. Might DOES NOT make right.

I watched F.W. Murnau’s 1926 film Faust recently. Each Murnau film I’ve seen has made a lasting impression on me. There are so many sequences where you can spot where future filmmakers would take inspiration from or outright steal. This film has been on my mind for quite a while now.

I watched these 2 Karloff films made during Hollywood’s self-imposed ban on horror films. West of Shanghai for Warner Bros features a nuanced performance as a Chinese warlord. Mr. Wong, Detective is the first in a series of mystery films Karloff made at Monogram to cash in on the Charlie Chan trend.

My 2024 #AppleMusic Stats just came in. Guess I spent a lot of my commute time listening to Van Halen or Randy Newman.

I recently enjoyed watching these two recent outstanding releases from #TheWarnerArchive. The Walking Dead ranks up there among Boris Karloff’s best performances and Peter Lorre is captivating in the psychological thriller that is The Beast with Five Fingers. #PhysicalMedia

Enjoyed these classic low budget horror films recently. Bela Lugosi abducts young brides to extract glands from them in order to keep his wife (Elizabeth Russell) young. The Man from Planet X stars Robert Clarke and Margaret Field as they encounter an alien being on the Scottish moors.

I haven’t seen Ben Hur but you may also want to check out Cecil B. DeMille’s 1932 film Sign of the Cross. If you haven’t watched it already, you MUST see it. The arena spectacle alone is worth the price of admission. Plus it’s very well acted and quite a compelling story.

I watched the original FW Murnau Nosferatu this year and became absolutely entranced with this film and with Murnau as a director. I’ve once watched Sunrise and The Last Laugh and loved those films as well. The Eureka blu ray is excellent while the BFI disc features a great score by James Bernard.
