Also a PSA for non UK folks/train nerds, if you see an unbelievably filthy train on your journey, it's likely a railhead treatment train, basically a pressure washer to blast leaves off the track which has the side effect of covering itself in mud. UK trains aren't usually quite this gross

Disappointed that palaeontologists have never followed up Euparkeria, Parker's good animal, with Dysparkeria, Parker's bad animal.

Photoshoot for an upcoming article with me and my esteemed colleague, the bronze Hypsilophodon.

I was given permission to jump the fence, please do not attempt yourself as the Hypsilophodon may bite

Everyone has covered the sensible and serious critiques of this article but missed the funniest part which is the suggestion/ threat that Barney the Dinosaur is responsible for driving most palaeontological research

Keeping with the silesaur theme for #fossilfriday here is the holotype of Ignotosaurus fragilis ( a partial right ilium) for your viewing pleasure.

Pushing the limits of #fossilfriday with this mummified Gallotia Goliath...

These large (>1m in length) lizards were endemic to the island of Tenerife until being driven extinct, possibly by the introduction of domestic cats and dogs

Also it was accompanied by this adorable retro life reconstruction 🦕

Here's Patagosaurus for #fossilfriday! This early Jurassic sauropod from Argentina shouldn't be confused with the larger Patagotitan which lived ~70 million years later
April 25, 2025 at 10:30 AM
Chunk of jaw from the silesaur Sacisaurus for #fossilfriday, just submitted a paper on one of this little guy's close relatives!

Some dinosaurs have horns or crests on their skulls, some have armour or sails or tail clubs, some have funky feathers, and some are just huge.

You've got to feel sorry for Saturnalia here who got "weird elbows" as it's stand out anatomical feature. 🦕🧪
April 2, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Been reliable informed that that the model palaeontologist in this exhibit is actually a repurposed cavemen, presented without comment😂 🦕🧪
April 1, 2025 at 4:32 PM
It's coming up to the tail end of my stay at the wonderful CAPPA in Southern Brazil so here's a section of the tail of Macrocollum for #fossilfriday 🦕🧪

Sadly as they are rarely preserved in the #fossil record we may never know which, if any, species of dinosaurs wore a bowtie and flat cap combo
