This one turned out better than I expected, and looking at the settings, I actually had enough light to close the aperture a bit. I went back yesterday to retake it. #photography
The same photo as the previous, taken a month later with a smaller aperture. A black and white photograph of a chemical/industrial plant is seen on the far side of a canal, at night. The plant is full of bright lights, and the sky and ground around are all dark. A reflection of a large building can be seen in the surface of the canal.

I've usually avoided shooting wide-angle on my camera; the results often feel like uninspired phone photos. I picked up a cheap prime lens to force myself to practise a bit more. Here are my first few photos with it. #photography #manchester

I am actually at war with this Robin; it likes to sabotage my best photos. Here is the brief moment it perched on the broom before I could get focus, and then it laughing at me from a distance.

I didn't share any photos from my summer trip at the time, because holiday photos seem trite, but I've had a change of heart about a few of them. From the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. #photography

One woman is holding her phone up to read the description next to the painting. The photo is in the same aspect ratio as the actual painting, because I am a nerd like that.

The drag queens of Manchester Pride Parade. (3 of 3) #manchesterpride
A drag queen posing at the end of Whitworth Street. They are wearing a zebra-print dress and black gloves and a beaded choker, which are accented by lime green nails, hair and eyeshadow. Their facial hair is styled into what can best be described as 'evil villain style', with a triangular beard and dali-esque moustache. They are posed elegantly, with one hand on their hip and the other palm upturned with fingers curled. A drag queen wearing a bodysuit featuring a comicbook-style print all over, and wearing matching oversized shoulder pads with feathers sticking out at their points. They are carrying a progress pride flag, which they have resting over their shoulder. A drag queen on Princess Street wearing a wide dress with many different rainbow patterns, largely made out of a feathery net material. Their hair is a mock-plasticine sculpt of mostly pink strands with a rainbow at the front. They have a rainbow painted across the top of their face/across their eyes, and they have a necklace with a row of either metallic or pearlescent feather pendants.

The drag queens of Manchester Pride Parade. (2 of 3) #manchesterpride
A drag queen poses whilst walking down Princess Street. They have wavy brunette hair and are wearing a multicoloured bodysuit, a cape containing the colours of many pride flags, and sparkling black boots. They are holding a paper fan with the progress pride flag printed on it. Two drag queens are singing from the parade float of the George House Trust, singing along to music and serenading spectators. They both have reddish-ginger hair, to which red rose flower heads have been attached. They are wearing dark red dresses (one velvet, the other sequined) which also have rose flowers detailing them. A drag queen stands in the back of a convertible car, wearing a purple sequined dress, and a feathery/net ring forms a halo behind their back, in colours most reminiscent of the pansexual pride flag. The car itself is decorated so that when stood directly in the centre, the multicoloured decorations line up to form an effect which looks like peacock feathers, or perhaps a sunburst. Small pride flags protrude from the side of the car's windscreen, and large progress pride flags hang from the back.

The drag queen on the left has long and wavy ginger hair and is wearing a black sequin dress with rainbow accents, matching gloves and is holding a pride flag feather boa. The drag queen in the middle is wearing a dress that is patterned with multiple neon colours, except for the ruffles at the bottom which are hot pink. Their hair is a curly matching pink, and they have a goatee that is dyed or painted pink. The drag queen on the right is wearing a mermaid dress that is patterned in the colours of the trans pride flag. They are wearing a matching cape with soft fabric horns protruding from each shoulder. Their hair is dyed in two halves, the left pink and the right pale blue, multicoloured balls of yarn are wedged into the front of the hair. They also have a pink goatee. The drag queen from the first photo with the black sequin dress is seen walking down the wide-open parade route. They are holding their arms wide apart, with the feather boa draped between each hand. A man in a mesh pride top is walking besides them. The drag queen from the first photo with the multicoloured dress is arms-wide, shouting to the spectators to hype them up. Their cape is hooked into their ring fingers and drapes underneath each arm.

Miss me with kink at pride discourse, lol, these groups were great. They should have been allowed to split into more distinct groups across the parade order, IMO; It was a bit difficult to photograph them well, being so bunched up. #manchesterpride
A row of sharply-dressed men in leather outfits and hats, glancing up at the camera. They are carrying leather pride flags, and many other pride flags are seen behind them. A pair of pup players are seen, one sat on the shoulders of the other. The one of the top wears a black and pink pup mask, a dog collar and a white vest and arm warmers under a black cargo vest and pants. The one underneath wears a black and orange pup mask, and is topless except for a chest harness of the same colour scheme. To the right, a fursuiter is wearing a partial fursuit, a hyena head with grey fur and a mock muzzle with a warning symbol and partly obscured text which probably reads 'DO NOT [PET]'. In the background, a puppy pride flag is flown, along with other pride flags. Several more rows of pup players, all in masks, and wearing varying clothing including chest harnesses, leather suits and latex. Placards behind them feature the puppy pride flag and have slogans like "4 paws up for trans rights". A fursuiter leads all the previously photographed groups, wearing a brightly-coloured complete fursuit. (Canine with cyan, white and pink fur, which itself wears the purple rims of a pair of glasses) They are waving at spectators in front of them. Immediately behind them a trans pride flag is held, and above them can be seen all the pride flags, mostly of the leather, puppy, and rubber flag designs.

Pride is a Protest (2 of 2) #manchesterpride
With a raised fist, shouting into a red megaphone, and wearing a keffiyeh, a protester leads a group marching in front of a banner that reads "No Pride in Apartheid: LGBT+ For a Free Palestine". Several are waving Palestinian flags. A wider shot of the last scene. More protesters are seen, many again are waving the flag of Palestine. The second banner of this protest group, which reads "Jewish Action for Palestine". The third banner of this group, which reads "Jews Against Genocide".

Pride is a Protest (1 of 2) #manchesterpride
Young marchers hold up placards reading "Just let us piss thanx babes" and "Keep your tiny hands off my human rights". One is also waving a small progress pride flag. A group marches with a trans flag banner that reads "None of us are free until ALL of us are free". A placard in the back references genocides/crises in Palestine, The Congo, Sudan and Ukraine. Members of the North West Ambulance Service carry a banner reading "No LGB without the T!". Members of BABCP march with placards calling for a ban on trans conversion therapy, most likely in response to the widely discredited Cass review and the political decisions made in its wake.

A placard held up by a National Trust marcher, that reads: "Christopher, Tony and Edith Three women who lived and loved freely at Smallhythe Place". Some historic vehicles show up in the parade. Naturally, the traction engine is the best of the lot. #manchesterpride

The vehicle is painted in a deep red, and has tractor-sized wheels which have been fitted with rubber for road use. A historic bus in a green-and yellow livery is draped in banners for the National Education Union. The badge on the grille reads 'Southdown'.

The mascots of Manchester Pride #manchesterpride
A large and intricately decorated figure of a pink owl is wheeled down Princess Street by members of Oldham Pride. A person in an inflatable unicorn costume hypes the crowd whilst marching with Foster for Greater Manchester. Two people marching with the Girl Guides wearing blue and pink shark costumes. The blue shark is in front, and is looking at the camera whilst striking a pose. A woman walks a young puppy down the parade route, winning the adoration of several onlookers. The puppy has black fur and has a pride flag bandana wrapped around its neck.

And finally for tonight, the medical and emergency service workers #manchesterpride #photography
A fire engine turns on Princess Street, instantly becoming the coolest float in the parade. On its side is a partly obscured banner that read "LGBTQ+ PRIDE. Fire doesn't discriminate, neither do we". An ambulance, sirens flashing, leads in front of marching members of the North West Ambulance Service. They are waving predominantly trans pride flags, bend which is a banner which reads "No LGB without the T". Employees of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust march with their banner. They are holding up three types of signs, featuring the NHS logo, a striped hexagon design, or heart shapes of many colours. About a dozen or so people are marching for the NHS Greater Manchester Mental Health Service. Based on the duration of their ADHD assessment waiting list, I assume this is their entire workforce.

Some of the Christian churches/organisations I spotted. I'm not religious, but I went through Catholic school, so I appreciate the churches that do show up. The more I learn about the Quakers, the more I respect them. #manchesterpride #photography

Scared of naming this part five, I'll group these groups representing LGBTQ+ members of different ethnicities together. These were a delight to see, and a good reminder of why we fly the progress flag now. #manchesterpride #photography
People marching for the African Rainbow Family, who support LGBTQ+ people of African heritage. Many of those at the front are dancing. People marching for the HongKonger Community Centre, with banner, placards and waving several progress pride flags. Members marching for FGRC (Fresh Grassroots Rainbow Community), a organisation supporting BAME LGBTQ+ asylum seekers. A pair at the front of the group are dancing, and have dropped down onto the tarmac. They've absolutely stolen the show. Members marching for The Rainbow Tree, a community group for British Bangladeshi LGBTQIA+ people.
