Remnants, Karen Beckwith's solo printmaking show, The Wolves, a play at Dobama Theatre, a gourmet feast by my mom, the most creative cook on the planet. All this to say: art makes us healthier, smarter, more agile, better humans. It should be a top funding priority, on my birthday and always.

Today is my birthday, so please indulge me as I share how we spent the weekend celebrating in no particular order.

Cleveland Museum of Art—Picasso and Paper exhibition and Karamu Artists Inc.: Printmaking, Race and Community exhibition. CMA has free admission museum and was brimming with visitors.

Just finished The House on Vesper Sands by @paraicodonnell.bsky.social and if you're looking to lose yourself in a world of gothic mystery, gorgeous sentences, and Victorian feminism—which who isn't right now?—I highly recommend you give it a read.

So much is bleak right now, but we survived the longest January in history and I am celebrating with egg and cheese on a waffle.

This young artist was making linocut prints at the studio today and he signed and gifted one of them to me.

Sometimes, after coming back to work from a two-week holiday break and wading through 378 emails, I just want eggs and a mushroom flatbread for dinner.

Getting out of the shower, I noticed what I thought was a dead stinkbug and was overcome with guilt for drowning it, only to see its legs fluttering moments later. I offered it a tissue, set it in the sunlight and watching it right itself was overcome by the gamut of emotions that encapsulate 2024.

In preparation for consuming an indecently decadent feast on New Year's eve, I've made this exceptionally healthy Tuscan Ribollita with lots of kale. Kind of miss the days of eating chocolate chip cookies for breakfast
