New in PNAS: we recreated blazar pair cascades in the lab. Using CERN’s Super Proton Synchrotron, we produced dense electron–positron beams and sent them through plasma to test whether beam instabilities can disrupt them, they can’t.

New in PNAS: we recreated blazar pair cascades in the lab. Using CERN’s Super Proton Synchrotron, we produced dense electron–positron beams and sent them through plasma to test whether beam instabilities can disrupt them, they can’t.

Our PRL on axion searches at the European Free Electron Laser has just been published. We achieved competitive sensitivity to accelerator based experiments with a really novel technique and expect to probe down to QCD relevant couplings for heavy axions in future ☺️☺️
