Yes, it can be fixed. Kick Israel out – why on earth should a genocidal country not even in Europe be in it? – and carry on.

The best of the later Genesis albums. Not a patch on Selling England by the Pound though!

She even copied Abe's lame 'Japan's back' comment when she launched her campaign. For once, I'm hoping for a bit of LDP old boys' misogyny, which may well work against her.

No, but it doesn't take a large percentage of emboldened bigots to make life very unpleasant for their targets.

The Tories never showed much interest in human rights when they were in power, so it may not be deal breaker. I'm as concerned about a far-right government emboldening the racists and thugs in these febrile times as I am about the legislation that Reform may or may not be able to pass.
September 13, 2025 at 12:43 PM
Yes, it does. A Reform government would have a catastrophic effect on the UK, not to mention the lives of anyone who looks or sounds 'a bit different'. That doesn't negate my point about Labour's dreadful performance in their first year or reduce my loathing of Labour in its current form.

It will be, unfortunately.

I think most reasonable people would acknowledge that. But the many unforced errors, the unwillingness to call out Israel's behaviour and the crackdown on peaceful protest have alienated Labour's natural supporters. The party now repulses me, and they deserve to lose big time at the next election.

APA can be a bit fussy about stuff, but I think they've got the right idea with capitalization.

The Spearman rank test is also the proper name of a test, and only 'Spearman' is capitalized because it's someone's name – 'rank' isn't. Wikipedia is helpful for such capitalization queries. On this page, 'adjusted' is not capitalized in the middle of sentences. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coeffic...

Hello from another copy editor. There's no reason to add a capital letter, so I wouldn't hesitate in removing it.

If you use the site judiciously, LinkedIn can be a good way of building ties with people in your profession. But, yes, way too much dick measuring and humblebragging. And people being 'passionate' and 'excited' about things that are not exciting and do not inspire passion.

Have a good trip. Here in Japan, we're right behind Ukraine and wishing you all the best.

What a lame response by Lammy!

Japan is not known for its nuance when it comes to distinguishing among foreigners, and some Japanese people have a weird thing about blood, so if things get really bad, my sons (who look 'a bit funny') could face discrimination, despite them being Japanese born and (half) bred.

I think that older Japanese people, who read more newspapers and watch TV, and are more likely to vote, will ensure that Japan will remain with an only mildly xenophobic government!
July 22, 2025 at 3:52 AM
Good question. This is a threat to Japan, but I'll be optimistic. The media here always supports the establishment. And the establishment has (rightly) concluded that Japan needs immigrants and are encouraging immigrants in a relatively enlightened way ...
