i do, however, admire the gusto it takes to paint artists as greedy and software developers as altruists despite the fact that 90% of all comp sci majors are just in it because it's a high-paying field and the whole stereotype of "starving artist" even exists.

it's like saying "you minimum wage employees are so SELFISH! all the little tasks you do at your food service job are basically the same as the objectives you have to complete when playing a video game. and i play video games for free, soooo"

what's amazing about this take is that they're comparing open-source software to, what i assume, commissions, since that's the only thing that would make sense? but that's the most false equivalence ever because the former is stuff they do as a result of a hobby and the latter as a job
