Member of Parliament for Ipswich
I loved being back at my old school, Debenham High School, to give the keynote speech at their Commemorative Assembly last night.

It was really special to reflect and offer a few words of advice.

Huge congratulations to the Class of 2025 who received awards and GCSE certificates.

🛍️ Earlier this week, Mark Hubert - owner of James St Peter's, an Ipswich Central board member, and the founder of the Ipswich Independents Group - and I attended a reception for SMEs held by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, in Number 11 Downing Street.

Homes fit for heroes.

I was delighted to meet with Alistair Carns, Minister for the Armed Forces, as our Labour Government launched the biggest upgrade to military housing in half a century.

It means 5,000 homes in the East of England will be modernised, refurbished or rebuilt.

'It's Ipswich's time isn't it?'

'It's got a lot going for it.'

'It deserves it.'

Grateful for the kind words of David Whiteley and Becky Jago on @itvanglia.bsky.social as we crank up Ipswich's culture bid.

Great to be joined by some of our town's best creatives in Lily Hammond and Amy Wragg too!

On Monday, I attended the Suffolk FutureSkills Fair which welcomed over 3,000 pupils from across Ipswich and Suffolk to explore career opportunities, meet employers and discover new skills.

A huge thank you to all the businesses for their support, and @suffolknewcollege.bsky.social for hosting.

Co-operatives have a long and rich history in Ipswich and the East of England.

They are rooted in their communities, keep wealth local, invest for the long-term and give people a genuine stake in their success.

Pride in Place seeks to builds on these values by putting power back into local hands.

From the right to request a pet to ending ‘no-fault’ evictions, our Labour Government is giving renters the security and stability they deserve.

More than 12,000 households in Ipswich will benefit from stronger rental rights and protections.

Promise made. Promise delivered.

'Culture. What culture?'

Well...

Award-winning parks, stunning waterfront, our iconic football club.

New Wolsey Theatre, Danceeast, Red Rose Chain, Eastern Angles.

Ipswich Museum, the Regent, Christchurch Mansion.

Brighten the Corners, SPILL, Ipswich Book Festival, Ipswich Music Day...

We had a great Ipswich Labour team out speaking to residents in Westgate this morning.

Thank you to everyone who joined local councillors, Colin Kreidewolf and Julian Gibbs, and I, and thank you to all the people who took the time to speak to us.

Much appreciated.

I fired the starting gun on Ipswich's culture bid today because I am ambitious for our town.

Speaking to Wayne Bavin on BBC Radio Suffolk, I said this celebration of Ipswich's talent will attract people to our town, who will then spend money in our shops, restaurants and pubs, boosting our economy.

We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to show the country what Ipswich is made of.

I am proud of Ipswich, and that is why I am firing the starting gun on our City of Culture bid.

Join me and help build a new future for our town!

Great to be out talking to people in SE Ipswich this morning with our Ipswich Labour team.

It was really heartening to meet the residents in Ravenswood who love their new homes, describing them as warm, safe and quiet.

Well done Ipswich Borough Council for delivering this important development.

I'm intent on delivering good jobs for Ipswich and Suffolk, and I want our young people to fill them.

That means we must provide the training and skills they need to get there.

From creating new Technical Colleges to reforming apprenticeships, we'll do just that.

I know the imminent closure of Bright Horizons Quayside Day Nursery and Preschool has caused a great deal of distress to parents and children in Ipswich.

Thank you to Clifford Road Primary School and Nursery for stepping up so quickly to offer support after our discussions.

I was delighted to visit Morland CofE Primary School's brand-new SEND unit recently.

'Wren's class' will provide dedicated support for up to 18 pupils, giving them the education they deserve.

Huge thanks to the Headteacher, John Crane, and the team for creating this life-changing provision.

After years of brutal Conservative cuts to children's centres, this Labour Government is investing in the futures of children and families.

I spoke to BBC Suffolk about the funding our county has received to open a Best Start Family Hub, so we can start to rebuild this life-changing service.
October 16, 2025 at 4:35 PM
I was delighted to join the Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk, Clare, Countess of Euston for the official opening of the new Ipswich ambulance hub.

Backed by £10 million of Government funding, this is an impressive state-of-the-art facility which will deliver better healthcare for local people.
October 14, 2025 at 8:06 AM
I'm absolutely delighted that new Government funding will mean that Christchurch Mansion - the iconic building at the heart of our town - can return to full open hours.

Supporting our museums is not just about preserving our past, it is about investing in our future too.

Today Greater Anglia has transferred into public ownership and the Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander, visited East Anglia to mark this new chapter.

Our Government wants passengers to be at the heart of our railways again, saving taxpayers millions of pounds in fees, and ensuring value for money.

💎 More good news for Ipswich.

After the successful entry of Jamaica Blue onto our high street, Lovisa, a global jewellery brand, will be joining them in the old Grimwades building.

Great work by Ipswich Borough Council as we continue to revive our town centre and restore pride.

I'm backing @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social for Deputy Leader because she is giving children the best start in life.

🍽️Free School Meal expansion
🥣Breakfast clubs
👩‍👦Best Start Family Hubs
👔Cutting uniform costs
👧Childcare for 30 hours a week
🎒Getting kids back to school
📈£1 billion extra for SEND

The SEND system is absolutely broken.

Families are forced into exhausting and expensive tribunals, a process that feels combative and secretive, when councils should be supporting them from the very start.

No parent should have to fight like this. That is why we need reform.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Hillside Primary School.

It was fantastic to hear about the progress they are making and to see the brilliant work staff are doing to support every child’s learning.

Thank to Mrs Wass and the whole school for their warm welcome.
October 6, 2025 at 10:31 AM
As the Chair of the Labour East PLP, it was a pleasure to kick off our region's reception at #Lab25.

I said I'm proud of what we've achieved over the past year, rebuilding our public services and investing in our communities.

However, we've still got work to do, and I’m more ambitious than ever.
