I don’t think it’s fair to overgeneralize the arguments against a mid-size city becoming a densely populated large city. I don’t live in Seattle or other big cities because 1. my income is based off a federal standard and my cost of living would be significantly higher than my income there.

Having lived in a townhouse on base, being able to hear the baby crying next door on one side and the couple noisily heading to a divorce on the other side was not ideal. Nor was living in the lower level of a quadruplex with the kids running overhead at night. Soundproofing is essential for these.
