I'd add that blanc's pop out is always unique. Yes, he solves the mystery, but the way he steps to the side of resolution is deliberate. It's like he knows -he- cannot change the story world, but he's looking at the one who can (at least in GO & WUDM). He is a detective, not arbiter of justice.
