It is incredibly annoying that these people act like they should be entitled to your time and attention. It generally makes me block them even harder.

Oh FUCK that shit.

It's just really weird that there's this expectation that one is supposed to be performatively upset that this guy - who was a huge asshole - is dead. Political violence is bad! But I'm not going to pretend to be sad that he can't hurt people anymore.

I know a LOT of people who've cut off their conservative parents or who plan to when they're safe to do so. None of the parents were chill and reasonable people who had a great, supportive relationship apart from the politics.

Basically nobody goes No Contact without a really good reason.

I wish they'd stop hurting people, and they've made it very clear that "dead" is the only way that'll happen.

You do seem to have some very specific allium-based curse going on, it's true.

Thank you, but I'm alright. I am well-practiced at firing crappy therapists. At the time it was more "Well. That explains a lot." and I felt better knowing, because it made sense of the really weird situation. I contacted the telehealth agency and got transferred to somebody else.

I didn't find out she was conservative until I was like "I'm getting a REALLY weird vibe here" and went to Google to look for reviews to see if other people had bad experiences. What popped up instead was her voter registration and some pro-Trump statements she'd made.

I did actually have one during part of the first year of COVID. She was very dismissive of my pandemic concerns as a disabled person and played it off as me being a control freak when I was stressed because my roommates at the time were taking zero precautions and didn't think the pandemic was real.

Honestly, MORE people should be cutting off their shitty parents. I went No Contact nine years ago and it's the best decision I ever made.

I have friends whose parents say awful things to them, and it's really heart-breaking. You don't HAVE TO talk to people who are constantly mean to you. :(

(And they wonder why I'm so insistent about poking everybody with a stick to make them do their own paperwork things!)
May 30, 2025 at 6:03 PM
Yeah, that.

Housemate's Dad died 13 years ago and her mom died 27 years ago. Other Housemate (who is Good At Organizing, and has been doing it out necessity and also exasperation) recently found a bunch of medical paperwork from the mid-90s that just . . . nobody kinda dealt with. Ever.

Friend of mine was reading a biography of Luther Burbank last week and my response was "Wait, Burbank as in the Russet Burbank Potato that Ursula hates?"

I kind of figured it was an extension of the thing where she got mad because disabled people criticized her on Twitter, so she wrote an entire book in her mystery series about how disabled people are super mean and also faking their illnesses.

This might be one to note down for the end of year Worst Takes of 2025 episodes. Seriously, fuck that guy.

Funerary rites!

A friend bought me wireless headphones for Christmas and it's been a serious game changer for the ADHD. It's just so much easier to break the inertia and get up from what I was doing to, like, put laundry away or whatever.

She's beautiful! Congratulations! (I saw mention of Turkey Dog and was scrolling back through the timeline to figure out when New Dog had dropped and what was going on.) I'm glad Boydog has a friend who will play with him.

Maybe something akin to "Why does/can the President really do?" and why it's different from being a king. I feel like I saw a lot of people who thought Biden should be able to just wave his hand and say "Do this!" or "Pass this law!" and it'd magically happen.

I was lucky and was able to talk to the surgeon who fused my ankle last year (to fix someone's other, different medical malpractice) and she referred me to her colleague who's a surgeon and isn't a dick. She only does ankles, but she's very cool and has Very Strong Opinions on medical ethics.

Your story was a factor in why I decided to push to talk to a surgeon earlier this year after the pain clinic doctor asked "Well what do you want ME to do about it?" after the injections didn't help. (Mine was "just" herniated, but I did not want to let it get worse.)

I just googled the recipe and I don't know what that IS, but it's not nachos.

I remember people had Opinions about GBBO's Mexican Week episode. And s'mores. And most other cultural theme weeks. There was also that Paul Hollywood cookbook that said challah was "traditionally served at Passover". I guess I'm saying it wouldn't shock me if Mary Berry was doing nachos wrong.
