This study suggests that young people who use screen media for a long time might not necessarily be “addicted” to their screens; rather, some young screen users who are already at risk for addictive behaviors might be more likely to develop a problem with screens.

Some traits that are known to increase people’s risk for drug addictions were related to problematic screen use, but others were not.

The study found that 9- and 10-year-olds who report greater tendencies towards impulsivity when they feel strong emotions tend to report more problematic use of screen media (video games, social media, and mobile phones) four years later.

The overall effectiveness of TMS, the dose-response relationship with the number of sessions, and the trajectory of improvement over the TMS course were similar in the adolescent and young adult groups and mirrored the same effects reported in adults.

After confirming the diagnosis with genetic testing, treatment should focus on symptomatic relief rather than lab normalization. Thyroid ablation or surgical removal should be avoided in all cases.
