The last few times I've been on my evening walk, I've taken a route by the river between Saltney and Chester which is quite secluded. Since no one else is around, I've taken my radio with me and managed to have at least one QSO on either 2m or our club repeater MB5HR. #amateurradio #hamradio #hamr
A Quansheng UV-K5(8) handheld radio is held in my hand. It has a long antenna attached. It is a Nagoya NA-771. The display shows MB5HR on VFO A and 145.500 on VFO B. In the background, a thin dirt path is visible through a wild area containing grass, wild flowers, nettles etc. Trees are also visible.

A coax cable with crocodile clips is attached to a driven element of a 3 element 2m yagi (SOTABEAM). The braid has almost totally disconnected from the crocodile clip, only holding on by two strands. A trig point (painted white) has a fibreglass mast tied to it, with a radio sat on the top of the trig point. A messy run of cables runs up the mast to a metal box, with a yellow antenna attached to it. This is the SG-lab transverter with 2 element PCB antenna. The transverter is held to the mast using a velcro strap. This is as dodgy as it sounds. Alternative view of the trig point with the Yaesu FT-857 clearly in view. The fibreglass mast is behind the radio. The messy cables running up the mast to the SG-Lab transverter probably looks even worse than the other photo. The transverter (silver metal box) and PCB antenna are visible at the top of the photo.

The location is elevated and so in the background you can see many miles away. A map showing a line between Scafell Pike and Ruabon Moors Trig Point. The length of the line is 161.56km with a heading of 178.28°

Hasn't the weather been great recently? Had a nice day out yesterday to Tatton Park, then headed home via Snugburys for the best ice cream.

I'm holding a metal box (the SGLabs 23cm transverter) vertically in my hand, which has a power cable and coax connected on the right hand side as well as a yellow PCB with visible copper traces (the directional PCB antenna). On my leg is a Yaesu FT-857 used as the 2m IF for the transverter. It displays "1297.500.00 FM, S9++". In the background there's some grass, some small rocks and my black metal water bottle haphazardly lying down on the ground.

At the top of the pole, a small log periodic antenna is mounted in vertical polarisation. The antenna is encased inside white plastic to protect the thin metal interior (which isn't visible).

The road is mostly covered, but some snow is melting. Car tyre tracks can be seen in the snow on the road. A graph of the outside temperature as measured by my weather station. It shows that the temperature overnight stayed close to 0.5°C and never reached 0.
