If you're interested in supplementing your reading with some TV drama set during this period I'd recommend the Wolf Hall series made by the BBC. Not sure how much dramatic licence it takes but I found it a helpful catalyst to find out more - particularly around early english bible translation.

Here in the UK when a minister bypasses parliament to amend or repeal a law (called secondary legislation) we even refer to it as using a 'Henry VIII clause', a reference to Henry's preference for legislating directly by proclamation rather than through parliament....also multiple wives...
