The last time I screamed out loud while watching a movie was when I was a little kid. This one changed that. I screamed so many times.

There aren’t enough characters for me to share the brilliance of this one, and I don’t want to spoil it for those who don’t know. Watch it before someone spoils it for you.

While I found some other films scarier, this one has haunted me the most. That’s got to mean something. There’s a certain type of magic here that isn’t present in any other film. Maybe it’s the coziness of it all, which ultimately makes it more disturbing.

This will be seen as an all time classic in the coming years, just you wait. Watch this film tonight if you can.

Watch this film alone. Let the silence take over your mind as you try and think about what the hell is even happening. Especially if you have no clue about what this film is going in.

How the FUCK is a sequel to The Shining so god damn good in this day and age?? HOW??

My biggest complaint is that it’s more of a Stephen King movie than it is a Kubrick sequel, so that means everything is explained way too much. Trim the fat and you have a perfect sequel, I’m not kidding.

You never hear about how funny this one is, do ya? The almost casual approach to the horrors in this film make it both funny and scary, it’s a neat balancing act. One of my new favorites.

A film that gradually gets yuckier until you beg for it to stop. Utter depravity in the best way possible.

The film that inspired me to do the marathon, cuz I went in not knowing it WAS a horror film. This film adopts a show don’t tell philosophy for the first half, then unfortunately starts spoonfeeding everything to you in the second half. If it trusted the audience a bit more it could’ve been a 10/10.

For a long time I was watching this worried that I accidentally picked another non horror film. I was wrong. I don’t actually like this film as much as some of the others beforehand, but I do think it’s scarier.

Screw everyone who didn’t give this one a chance, I’d much rather have seen Halloween become an anthology series than have Michael Myers return over and over. I’m glad people are turning around on this one, it inspired me to give it a go and I love it.

I have claustrophobia and this film didn’t help. Make sure you’re watching the unrated version, the studios fucked with this one a bit and ruined the ending. Can’t say much more without spoiling the whole thing.

For being the film that wrote the book on zombies, it sure isn’t as formulaic as your typical zombie movie. Right when I think this film’s going a certain way, it swerves in the other direction. Definitely give it a watch if you’re as blind as I was coming in.

This is a great film on its own, but what really sets it above the rest is the soundtrack. I’ve never seen a film before or since that utilized its score so effectively to sell the emotion of its characters.

Jesus Christ.

A movie that only gets scarier once you hear how it was filmed. The awful conditions caused a lot of the cast and crew to go batshit, and you can absolutely tell in the final product. Whoever tacked on that fake based on true events label was a genius, as parts of this feel like a snuff film.

What the hell were people on about? Last year I heard this was a soulless cashgrab so I didn’t see it! Now I look back and all the reviews are positive? Am I going crazy?

Anyway, the last thing I’d call this movie is soulless. This thing’s got a ton of soul, and AWESOME practical effects.
November 5, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Heard some people say that this was better than the original. It isn’t, but with the right budget and director it probably could’ve been. The environments and practical effects were super cool looking! I’m a sucker for hellscapes that look like this, so it gets extra points for scratching that itch.

Had I known about the alternate ending going in then this would’ve ranked a lot higher. The ending I saw killed a shit ton of the scares though, so now it’s here. With the alternate ending intact, this would move four spaces up.

You can tell a film mixes comedy and horror really well when you’re laughing at a scene only for your laughter to slow down and quickly become replaced with concern.

The very last film I watched for the marathon, so I was pretty tired of scary movies at this point. Hannibal’s super intriguing as a character, and this is a rare case where I want to see all the other films in the franchise. The scares though? Too burned out to properly feel ‘em.
November 5, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Kinda scary at points! But at other points it feels like I’m reading some edgy teenager’s manifesto. Had the movie ended where the director wanted it to it would’ve annoyed me a lot more, but in a super rare case the new ending that the suits tacked on feels super necessary.

Didja guys know that this isn’t a horror movie? I didn’t. The aliens take a backseat to most of the story, but when we DO see them, it’s enough to propel this movie to being as high as it is on my list. Still a good watch even if it isn’t scary most of the time.
November 5, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Two very different films stitched together, and I LOVE it. Once you get over the initial shock of the twist then the film’s not that scary, but it’s so fun that I had to give it a higher ranking.

Feels less like its own standalone film and more like a natural escalation of the first, making them feel like one long movie. I like that, but it still feels like I’m reviewing half a movie here.
