Sad to hear you are leaving Marie, but I am sure you'll move onto something new and exciting. And I sincerely hope it's still something to do with the business side of games, because there are too few journos on that beat already!

Interesting(?) fact: the microprocessor Nintendo used for the GBA was the same as the one in the black and white Nokia 3210i, but tuned for graphics. But nobody noticed, cos' the games were great 😍

In the UK in the 80's there was limited choice, so that's why Xybots stood out - it was very different to all the usual Galaga, Pacman and Street Fighter II machines! Think I need to go on an odyssey to see if there are any still in the UK...

Sadly, with the state of video games retail in the UK, if you tried this now it would be people queuing outside an Amazon fulfilment centre 😫😭

I'm not sure you are meant to suggest photos of yourself for other people to turn into memes - isn't that sort of virality 1984-stylee? 😂

Possibly semantics ;-) But IMHO what you really need is a forecastable point at which your studio moves on to the next project, either through planning or necessity. What we have seen in 2023/4 is that live service games have become unpredictable, in large part due to too much competition.

I think that's the key issue - there is no 'end of life' for live service games, there is only financial failure and then closure. The ongoing cost of both cloud infrastructure to run it, plus the constant grind of updates, seasons, expansions, etc means that live service is a snake eating itself
