Upping the anti in social media...
Agreed but that's not the point. You said it yourself - having the one section of society with power over the rest hasn't worked before and won't work in the future. The inequality and culture needs changing fundamentally. Changing ends in a game with flawed rules won't make the match fair.

"Capgemini CEO Aiman Ezzat dismissed calls for a total technological sovereignty in Europe... The French IT services group... is positioning itself as a bridge between Brussels' sovereignty ambitions and the reality of U.S.-dominated cloud infrastructure".
In related news, water is found to be wet.

2/2. The candidate system is screwed up but the answer is to fix it not ban people from standing. "Only the working class ought to rule their lives" makes no more sense than "people from privileged backgrounds ought to rule on their lives".

1/2 Schools must not let bias interfere but who will explain what communism is then? Or Fascism? Or any other political position that is not represented by the current parties? Politicians are skilled lairs. Do you think your average uninformed school student will be able to challenge meaningfully?

Re your 1st bullet point, zero time for political lessons from any party. Teach people to understand the whole spectrum of political views and let them work out where each party lies. 2nd and 3rd points, no. Any/all citizens must be able to stand. Last point equal state cash, zero private cash.

That's a lot of words to say "well, I don't mind the rain". Hooray for you. I'm thrilled. Easy to say that when you don't work outdoors and your house/workplace isn't being flooded though I suppose.
Total waste of column inches.

They're not and their explanation is clear about their position. That said, it doesn't make sense to me - it's pictures of his former Ukrainian teammates on a helmet, not a team strip saying "death to invaders" in huge letters or something. Subtle, tasteful, respectful and apolitical.

In just 7 days, so I'm told, but only if you enlist the help of Mr Furter.

They're just targeting the obvious people currently (hence racism) but you can rest assured that if the UK were totally whites-only, they would soon find another target - the poor, the homeless, the unemployed etc. Some unperson or other. "It belongs to human nature to hate those you have injured."
February 12, 2026 at 4:06 PM
... or is misguided. I don't think anyone's paid that many people just to lie. Most people I suspect simply assume it to be the case (but don't know how it would).

Get off X and get yourself some help man, for heaven's sake.

When do we start with those big wins I heard about?
February 10, 2026 at 6:24 PM
When do we hear about pressing charges, trial dates etc?

Agreed 100%. The hypocrisy and opportunistic nature of it stinks though. ☹️

Lastly, Mandelson has been fired from his ambassador role and now resigned from the Lords, so has no role at all in government.
February 9, 2026 at 6:33 PM
Secondly, Mandelson was an ambassador so not in the cabinet. They are high ranking civil servants and thus politically neutral. I appreciate your passion here but let's not get angry. I'm not being condescending.
February 9, 2026 at 6:32 PM
It doesn't mean that in the UK it doesn't - to bottle it is to chicken out of something. Whatever. Doesn't matter.

(And darn, Bluesky makes it hard to answer threads coherently!)
February 9, 2026 at 6:27 PM
He is literally being 2-faced!!! Check elsewhere on this article and you can see his glowing praise for Mandelson - but now Starmer has to go for a decision Sarwar praised recently. Why is Sarwar not under pressure to resign for showing such poor judgement?
February 9, 2026 at 6:26 PM
Maybe bottling it means something different in Canada... anyway, yes, people here do see Reform for what they are. And who is the nonce in the cabinet?
February 9, 2026 at 6:23 PM
I don't think they're bottling it - they're making stupid decisions and then doing u-turns. Starmer has all the charm of a lawyer but apparently without the boring competence, but his party's bickering and backbiting is annoying. On the plus side, Reform are also losing ground at the moment too
February 9, 2026 at 6:11 PM
Sarwar was full of praise for Mandelson's appointment not that long ago, so I fear this is nothing more than opportunistic party-political nonsense. That will go down like a lead balloon especially given recent history.
February 9, 2026 at 6:07 PM
Tim, with respect, I'm in the UK, so no, I don't forget what our voting system is. And PR will actually give more seats to Farage etc. - FPTP currently works against him.
