Its always interesting especially when half the stories arent even entirely made up, the crew often understood such a connection with the locomotives that after a crash and the crews death other workers would claim to see them in the cab as the disheveled engine limped in for repair

Certainly a very interesting and notable chapter in railroad history. I enjoy learning about it all, seeing the differences in railroads across countries and their geographic differences driving interesting and varied designs to conquer their respective challenges

I certainly am biased saying it was the best but the scale and achievements in American railroad history cannot be understated and are unfortunately not celebrated enough

Many records say it was in 1916 with an estimated 250,000 miles of active lines ranging from the largest railroads fueling the industry titans to small shortlines supporting small towns. Our interurban network also was marvel to behold, boasting interconnectivity, able to take you thousands of miles

My type of patriotism is knowing that America had one of and arguably the best railroad network in the world and we let it decay and wither and we should have done more to preserve it and should do more to rebuild

Unfortunately for everyone around me I'm the opposite

Historically even the best passenger railroads were either just barely profitable or not even close and had to be offset by subsidies or massive freight profits which even the class 1 railroads struggle with now a days let alone Amtrak which is still running in said class 1 lines in many places
