Our key result is looking at the black hole mass in relation to the bulge stellar mass and the galaxy stellar mass. In the former, we find that our sample contains overmassive black holes compared to bulge mass, and in the second, we find agreement with established relations.

Every galaxy in out sample lies above the HR04 relationship, indicating black holes in disk-dominated galaxies can outgrow their bulges. The points with arrows are where there was no detected bulge, and what the upper limit on bulge mass is. These points are also all above the HR04 line, so black holes do not need a bulge to grow to masses of 10^(8.5) Scatter graph. In blue is our data and in red is data from Häring and Rix (2004). We pick out which galaxies host small classical bulges and which host pseudobulges with the aid of their surface brightness and GALFIT fitting. Here's how some key parameters vary in the sample.

Starting with a sample selected in SDSS of 100 disk-dominated galaxies hosting bright Type 1 AGN, we obtained HST imaging to understand their morphology in greater detail via GALFIT photometric fitting, allowing for easier separation of galaxy and AGN.

went to the zoo today, and there's a walk-through where you can feed rainbow lorikeets nectar. never has one human looked so happy

After controlling for stellar mass and colour, we find that strongly barred galaxies have a higher AGN fraction (31.6 ± 0.9 %) than weakly barred (23.3 ± 0.8 %), which are in turn more likely than unbarred (14.2 ± 0.6 %). These are highly statistically significant results.

We select a sample of disk-dominated galaxies, and divide them into strongly barred, weakly barred and unbarred, and into AGN, star-forming and "undetermined" (red spirals). We remove uncertain, LINER and composite sources
