This is a familiar theme in all of Robinson's work, that tension between chasing your wildest dreams, no matter how silly they are, and the reality of daily domestic life and survival. The millennials are a generation stuck in the middle—between the promises and excesses of 20th-century America and the techno-dystopia being created right before our eyes. Most tellingly, Ron is doing better than most. He's got a house, a family, a job—but it's the malaise. The feeling of being stuck, whether in a boring town or in menial work, weighed down by responsibility and unable to feed that core that yearns for more.

It's the coaching ego, and coaches love to play out the "me sowing, me reaping" meme. They will drum up publicity for themselves, ask for gargantuan paychecks, and establish this king-atop-the-mountain persona when things go well, only to immediately pretend to be helpless children just doing the best they can under unrealistic expectations when things stop going well.

There's no way this team won't be fun to watch and root for. The only real saving grace, for those who'd like to see Harrison receive his richly deserved comeuppance, is that his team is stuck on a win-now track, which is a ton of pressure to put on even the best rookie superstar. Kyrie is hurt, and Davis will be hurt at some point in the early part of the season. From the reports within the building, it does not seem like they have the highest-quality medical team taking care of these guys either. And the Mavs are already making the classic mistake of making their rookie star the point guard in charge of the offense, before they even get a real feel for his strengths and weaknesses.
