Akdeğirmen Mosaic in the Zeugma Mosaic Museum in Gaziantep

Akdeğirmen Mosaic was unearthed during the excavations conducted between 1971 and 1974 in the area Akdeğirmen Tumulus, in Yavuzeli District of Gaziantep.

Nestled just west of the Church of Profitis Ilias and near the ancient city walls, the Church of Hagia Aikaterini stands as a hidden gem in Thessaloniki. This Palaiologan church is one of the 15 Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments that earned a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988.

Painted bowl restored from sherds found in Thessaly. The decoration of the bowl with meander patterns is characteristic of the classical phase of Dimini pottery. Late Neolithic period (5300-4500 BCE), now in Benaki Museum of Greek Culture in Athens.

The Georgios Averoff is an armored cruiser that served as the flagship of the Hellenic Navy for over forty years from 1911. Laid down in Italy in 1910 as a Pisa-class armored cruiser, the ship fought in four wars and played an important role in modern Greek history.

Philopappos Hill in Athens is known for its beautiful views of the city and the Acropolis itself. It is named after the monument of Philopappos, a Roman senator who was honoured with a tomb on the top of the hill. The area is a popular spot for walking and enjoying nature.

Corinth is an ancient Greek city on the Isthmus of Corinth , the isthmus connecting the Peloponnese and mainland Greece. One of its iconic landmarks is the archaic Temple of Apollo dating from the mid-6th century BCE and located above the agora. Seven of its large columns are still standing.

The Emperor died on the 9th of August in Selinus, after declaring Hadrian as his successor. The new emperor had Trajan's ashes brought to Rome, and the place of his death was renamed as Traianopolis.

In 117 CE, the Roman emperor Trajan was returning from a military campaign conducted against the Parthians in Mesopotamia. In the spring of this year, the state of his health began to deteriorate rapidly, making it impossible for him to return to Rome.

It was connected by a maritime trade route with the island of Cyprus. In Hellenistic times the city, known as Selinus, became the subject of a dispute between the generals of Alexander the Great. In 197 BCE, it was incorporated into the Roman Empire.

According to Assyrian sources, in 628 BCE, a Phoenician city called Sallune was founded here.

However, scholars assume that this area had been settled much earlier, because of favourable agricultural conditions and natural harbour that could not escape the attention of the local population.
