This prompt brought me to the ancient egyptian reverence and art of the #beetle. As we’re still in the first 13 weeks of #inktober52 that I’ve devoted to the #paleozoic, I present to you: the permian ancestor to *1/4 of all known animal species*! 🪲

Horseshoe Crabs are xiphosurans, and as far as we can tell, came to that form we know them for first in the late Ordovician. They actually can’t bite or sting, so they are entirely safe to pet at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo at Stingray Beach!
