Same response in San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. Newspapers and politicians exaggerated stories of violence; the Army was sent with instructions to kill looters. The response to Katrina was clearly racist but also shows how little regard people in power have for "commoners."

I don't know what this woman is eating, but it does not appear to be bread. Maybe something she picked up on the street and then she got confused about which was the bread?

If we cease pumping carbon into the atmosphere (as we must), but continue destroying nature, we'll STILL collapse our liveable planet.
