From Boise, the train is taken over by the diesels, and the train ends in San Francisco VIA Reno and Sacemento.

From Detroit, it heads BACK to chicago, with PM 1225 as the power. In Chicago, the 261 takes over AGAIN to Milwuakee and Green Bay, before heading to Minneapolis. In Minneapolis, the CPR 2816 takes over to Fargo and Bismark, and Billings, before traveling to Boise.

The 261 takes the train to Kansas City VIA Topeka. In Kansas City, the train dips south to OKC and Little Rock to Memphis. In Memphis, the train is taken over by NKP 765 and NYC 3001. The train heads to St. Louis, then Chicago. From Chicago, it heads to Indianapolis, Colombus, and Detroit.

In Portland, the UP steam takes over with 4014 and 844, heading south to Salt Lake City. There, the two Golden Spike engines are moved to Odgen Union Station for a ceremony, and the trains back on the road to the midwest. UP keeps the train moving towards Denver, where MILW 261 takes over.

In Dallas, UP takes over with 4014 and 844 doubleheading to Albuquerque, where 2926 takes over to Phoenix. In Phoenix, the SP 4449 and SP&S 700 take over to Seattle VIA LA and San Francisco, with 3751 tripleheading for a bit.

In Savannah, the AFT diesels mentioned earlier take over through florida to Miami and Orlando, before heading to Atlanta. In Atlanta, SOU 4501 and 630 take over to Chatannoga and Birmingham. There, the diesels take over to Dallas VIA Jackson MS following I20 mostly.
