Signs and symptoms cont.
Pulmonary embolism
-Sudden shortness of breath
-Chest pain that’s sharp and stabbing; may get worse with deep breath
-Rapid heart rate
-Unexplained cough, sometimes with bloody mucus

Signs and symptoms for blood clots:

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
-Swelling, usually in one leg (or arm)
-Leg pain or tenderness often described as a cramp or charley horse
-Reddish or bluish skin discoloration
-Leg (or arm) warm to touch

However, I didn’t have any of these risk factors when I was diagnosed with both deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in 2018. I only got diagnosed because I had some amazing staff and friends who encouraged me to get looked at when I was just ignoring the signs and symptoms.

If you take estrogen, have been hospitalized, are pregnant or just had a baby, are undergoing cancer treatments, are over 55, overweight or smoke you are at higher risk for clots. The whole list of risk factors is available here: www.stoptheclot.org/about-clots/...
