Friendly reminder that states can lead on transportation issues without federal dollars. It's just a matter of priorities.

Case and point: Colorado. The Bustang system has been enormously successful.

Last year the state passed bills that raise $170 million annually for buses, trains, and transit.

Curb pricing elsewhere has been shown to help parking turnover and increase access to the curb.

(See: Donald Shoup.)

On-street parking in Bellevue is free today. Recent data collected in Bellevue shows that most on-street parking areas are very full and have little turnover.

Spending a week vacation in beautiful Guatemala.

Being reminded what organic, human-scale walkways with engaging entries can feel like.

Bike lanes aren’t just roadway niceties—they cut cycling deaths by up to 50%. Imagine that: safety *and* sanity on the streets.

If cars get highways, people on bikes deserve space too. We need to stop treating cyclists like secondhand citizens and build more cities that actually make sense.

King County Metro will be presenting an update on the RapidRide K Line next week to Bellevue City Council.

Metro has a preferred route through downtown on 110th Avenue NE, which will allow closer proximity to the 2 Line and future Stride BRT at the Bellevue Transit Center.

Presentation from @sightline.bsky.social and @parkingreform.org showing arbitrary parking requirements in different Washington cities.

If we want to take the climate crisis seriously, we need to remove parking requirements!

(Shoutout to Spokane who removed req’s this year @spokanerising.com)

Spreading some urbanist levity:

Here’s a throwback when my girlfriend (now wife) and I dressed up as bikeshare bikes for Halloween in 2017.

This was pre-scooter, pre-ebike era! Back then, it was just Spin, Lime, and Ofo.

I think leftists now need to focus on a politics revolving around the plot of the 2006 classic “She’s The Man”

- girl pretends to be boy in order to join boys soccer team
- girl proves she’s good at soccer
- girl befriends boy
- girl reveals she is girl
- boys let girl still play
- girl wins game
