Happy to be back at AIAS in Aarhus, Denmark to discuss, write and innovate new ideas about Object Play, Tool Use and Innovation with awesome researchers from very different fields. Feeling inspired!!

Young chimps play weird with tools and other objects & this can lead to innovation! Moss sponging, doll play, leaf clipping to ask for carrying. If copied and retained, rare kid innovations can contribute to cultural complexity 🧪🔬🐵

Whenever I see geese flying in autumn, my inner child immediately imagines a tiny mischievous boy riding one of the geese during their migration… Just like in the Swedish cartoon The Adventures of Nils Holgersson, which I was super into as a nerdy little European child. 🪿👦🏼

Early fall before sunset on Rideau river, Ottawa. Such pretty sky reflection in the water 😍

Update: it’s at least from the 1940’s. The desk has many kids’ names and stick figures carved into the wood. Will help me identify the name of our little kid ghost 😂

Just got this 60’s school desk from my neighbour. My kid loves it but which terrifying little girl or boy ghost will be haunting us now??? 😱 👻 #halloween #toosoon

My submission for “things that seem like a great idea but are actually terrible”. I lost my kid for 25 minutes in this monstrosity of a park. We were both overstimulated. At least kiddo had a great time… but never again, bouncy castle hell, never again.

4 that came to mind, for young and old

We talked a bit about these ideas too in this article on premasticated foods sharing (kiss feeding) in chimpanzees at Ngogo. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

During my PhD fieldwork at Ngogo in Uganda, I got to name a new immigrant female chimpanzee "Sonia", partly because she reminded me of the main character in this movie (chimp Sonia has tinge of red in her hair and is built like a tank). Here's chimp Sonia in 2014. It all comes full circle!

I think she reminded me of another swoon-worthy Sonia from this weird movie from childhood:

I was not good at any of them. Also, the effect that pixelated Sonia in the Indiana Jones game had on me as a child… 😳 😅

Okay, I know Roald Dahl is problematic, but early twenties me was a big fan of his twisted and perverse short stories, many of which were used in the excellent British TV series, Tales of the Unexpected.

Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung.
"Blurring the lines between magical realism, horror, and science-fiction, Chung uses elements of the fantastic and surreal to address the very real horrors and cruelties of patriarchy and capitalism in modern society."

Sam Stead giving a fascinating talk about factors affecting infant survival in the elusive and strange Rwenzori Angolan colobus monkeys at #AABA2025. The results were 😲. Colobines are the coolest primate, don’t at me. @teichroeb-lab.bsky.social
