Saz - Glasgow - Professional Silly Goose
"Many people think that death is the end. The ending of pain, of hate, of love. But these things are not so easy to erase. Any kind of wanting leaves a scar."

Bat Eater - Kylie Lee Baker
5/5 🦇

Absolutely spectacular from start to finish, unbelievably original and fresh. Couldn't recommend enough.

"You have to play the system. They think you’re weak and girly? Act weak and girly. Use their own prejudices against them. Then when they’re not looking, cut their fucking throats."

Sweetpea - C.J Skuse
3/5 🔪

Honestly? Started off a slog for me but ended up worth it in the end. A fun book all in.

"It’s weird how easily you can get to know someone from the traces they leave behind when they go."

The Flatshare - Beth O'Leary
3/5 🛏️

Not my usual thing at all - read for part of a book group expecting to hate it but I have to admit it has me really sucked in at times!

"I've never really not written, never not had another world of my own making to escape to, never known how to be in this world without most of my soul dreaming up and living in another."

Bunny - Mona Awad
2.5/5 🐇

Desperately wanted to love this after Rouge, but it just didn't hit for me.

"He was withering. To wither is not the same as to break; to break is to have pieces to put back together, and to wither is to dry up, to wilt, to lose bone, to die, and death is the most boring."

Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova - 5/5 🖤

Sixth book of the year and such a standout. Amazing.

"Happiness is an incredibly rare and dangerous emotion. I'm someone who can't bear the fall from happiness to despair. I need a safety net to prepare for it since the higher I climb, the greater my injuries will be when I fall. That's what's so frightening"

Walking Practice - Dolki Min
4/5 👽

"Only bad religions depend on mysteries, just as bad governments depend on secret police."

Poor Things - Alasdair Gray

2nd book of the year down. Unsure how I felt about this one to be honest... Review still pending.

"You were such a lonely little girl, weren't you? Whispering to grass. Befriending sticks. Dreaming yourself into movies and books. Every screen, every page, like a door to another world, remember?"

"My heart is a thin thing, these days - shred of paper blown between the spaces in my ribs."

Our Wives Under the Sea was wonderful. I think I felt every emotion reading it. Sometimes you read a book, purely by chance, at just the right time in your life. This was one of those instances for me.

Saw this the other day in one of my local charity shops... Curious if my brain is just wired to think all things Silent Hill or if anyone else sees what I see.

Woke up thinking of my favourite poem today. "Strawberries" by Edwin Morgan. I think of it often, not always sure why. I just find it wonderful.
