Everyone winced at the memory of the terribly domineering, yet oddly melodic voice that still seemed to echo in all their minds. This one is not to be turned away. Stated Hanguang-jun. His great maw had not opened, but his voice had been heard in the minds of all those present nonetheless. Definitely missed my original Wei Ying Day deadline but, we persevere with mdzsww 😤 #WIPWednesday
(most) text reads: Since it’s official, he figures he should get around to letting his little brother know, so he video-chats him, keeping A-Yuan out of the front facing camera’s view as it rings. Jiang Cheng is, in true Jiang Cheng fashion, already frowning grumpily down at the camera when he picks up. “Hello to my favorite didi!” He sings just to make A-Yuan giggle and also to make Jiang Cheng frown harder. “I have news!” Jiang Cheng sighs, his tone already long suffering. “What did you do now?” After finally letting A-Yuan into the frame, he shouts “meet your nephew!” “I’ve met him,” Jiang Cheng squints. “Hi, A-Yuan.” Wei Ying’s son waves. “Not since he’s been officially adopted though! I’ve even beat jiejie to getting you one,” Wei Ying cackles before continuing. “A-Yuan can you say ‘jiujiu’?” And right on cue because he is the best baby (A-Ling had yet to be born so he didn’t count yet), A-Yuan throws his arms up and lisps out an enthusiastic “Jiu!” (…)

He took notes on tweaks and adjustments to make as they came to him and he re-recorded often. After all the time spent in the suffocating silence of his own thoughts, it was frankly a relief to hear music in his head again. Though he had no idea what had brought on the sudden bout of inspiration, he knew this piece once finished would not be for obvious public performance. It wasn’t for sale, or for one of Xichen-ge’s orchestras. And it was still missing something. Something essential. He also felt confident for the first time in a while that it would come to him in time. When he was ready for it.
