I post whatever’s on my mind for the most part. 18y / PT-BR/EN / Computer Science / I write reviews about the games I’ve been playing here: https://backloggd.com/u/Nexos/
You guys should definitely find a way to put a 'Do a Barrel Roll' easter egg in this game somehow. It would be so awesome for Star Fox fans!

Actually, I feel the same way. Whenever I decide to do a review, I can only play something else once I finally finish it. It's like I've cleared an obligation I put on myself, and only then can I move on to another game.

Don’t fall for the trap of hating a good game just because of a sensationalist self-promotion event like the TGA.

And here we are at the end of the journey. This game remains as majestic as it ever was. It might have a few flaws here and there, but it was the first 3D platformer of its kind, so those mistakes don't diminish its value at all. Without a doubt, a Nintendo masterpiece!

I truly think this is one of the best pieces of music Nintendo has ever composed. There’s something so magical about it that reminds me of my childhood—back when all you wanted to do was sit down and play some video games without a single worry in the world.

So there probably would have been more tracks than what we actually got in the final game.

I think when they created the top floor, they must have thought, 'Hmm, why don't we just play the same music for all its levels?' You can't really judge them, though, because this game had major deadline issues and a lot of content had to be cut.

I've always found this cloud enemy strange; it only appears once in the entire game just to annoy you with its breath. I wonder if it was supposed to show up in other levels, but they probably just couldn't find a good way to fit it in anywhere else.

A lot is said about the melancholic feeling of this level, and there really seems to be something strange about it. Every time I get here, I feel like stopping, maybe because of its grayer tone compared to the rest of the game. You could definitely spend hours just theorizing about why that is.

It’s incredible how even after replaying this game dozens of times, I still find new things in it—like in Wet-Dry World, where the water level starts differently depending on how high you jump into the painting. If you jump in at the top, it starts high; if you jump in at the bottom, it starts low.

I really love these tiny details that explain the game mechanics within the game’s own universe—like the mirror room that shows Lakitu as the cameraman, explaining why the game is in third-person. It’s a detail that adds so much charm to the game.

I really love the lag in this level because of Bowser's submarine. Apparently, not even the Nintendo 64 was powerful enough to properly render such a massive sub. It’s a good thing it disappears after this mission, though its whereabouts afterwards remain unknown.

“Don’t become his lunch.” Hmm... but why? Dorrie doesn't attack the player... or does he? It's incredible how this phrase means something completely different in Japanese, but in the translation, they totally changed the meaning of the sign just to make us afraid of Dorrie.

I'm almost absolutely sure they used this mansion as inspiration for Luigi’s Mansion…

That piano... It was a total jump scare the first time I saw it. This game is all about fun and joy, but there's no denying it has some pretty bizarre things for a kids' game.

I’ve always found the back area of the castle a bit strange. The door texture is clearly different from the rest of the wall, which makes it look like someone tried to break into the back of the castle, accidentally smashed the original door, and they had to rebuild it.

How did a blurry image less than 300 pixels wide, which wasn't even meant to be anything special, manage to become one of the most legendary urban legends in gaming history?
December 17, 2025 at 5:10 PM
I’ve always been confused by the background in the Bowser levels—I literally have no idea what it's supposed to be. I know the level is meant to take place in a cave, but seriously, what on earth is that background even supposed to represent?

Maybe it’s because the internet wasn't as big back then, so info wasn't as easy to find as it is today, especially since most gaming trivia back then came from magazines.

It’s crazy to see how many people don’t know about this secret level in the castle's aquarium area. It’s not even that hidden, and you actually need to go there to 100% the game, but seeing so many people who had no idea it existed is a bit strange to me.

That eel used to terrify me as a kid; I literally couldn't play this level just because of it. Nowadays it doesn't scare me at all anymore, but whether it was intentional or not, that thing is definitely way too creepy for a Mario game.

I find this detail in Dire Docks so strange: in the first mission, there's a fog because it's nighttime, but in the following ones, it's daytime and the fog is gone. There was really no reason for them to include that since it's such a tiny detail, but once you notice it, its impossible to unsee it.
