The road calls quietly and carries me where my soul longs to be, to the mountains whose silence sets my spirit free. Their sheer beauty always softens the day, their quiet strength steadies my mind, and the soft breeze whispers it’ll be okay. The peaks hold the stories of ages untold, and in their stillness I find treasures more precious than gold. The mountains bring me happiness, and an abundance of peace, stress and worries will fade, and I can fully release. The trails beckon, though not just to roam, but straight to the mountains that whisper, “you’re home.”

More about the Tenmile Tailings Pond. The Tenmile Tailings Pond serves as a vast waste-storage basin within the extensive network of ponds at the Climax Mine in Colorado. This massive reservoir contains more than half a billion tons of tailings—residual waste from nearly a century of molybdenum mining operations. To accommodate the ongoing expansion of these ponds in the Ten Mile Creek drainage, Colorado State Highway 91 has been relocated five times over the years, making room for new impoundments as the mining waste continued to accumulate. It's pretty mind-blowing, isn't it? *The Climax Mine's tailings ponds have literally reshaped the landscape around Fremont Pass in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. The Climax Mine, 13 miles northeast of Leadville, is the world’s largest producer of molybdenum—(Moly B for short) essential for hardening steel in countless industries. Its legacy of extraction creates the surreal copper and turquoise hues of the Tenmile Creek Tailings pond. Suspended copper compounds produce the water’s turquoise shade, which shifts with its alkalinity, while iron in the mining waste, exposed to air and water, oxidizes into iron hydroxides that precipitate out, leaving the water tinged and the landscape streaked with bold orange and red hues—the same reaction that creates rust. The mine uses advanced water treatment to protect Tenmile Creek and the Dillon Reservoir, a key source of Denver’s drinking water. Despite environmental challenges, the vivid turquoise and copper tones create an almost otherworldly beauty, it’s stunningly breathtaking to see in person. Thanks for reading … 🤎
