“So, is there anything from…the other side…that you have to report?” Aera’s voice was soft yet commanding. She had an air about her that demanded respect. She dressed well and professionally, and she ran a tight ship. In those things, she was similar to Celine. But her hair was coiled and permed—every four months without fail since the eighties. She wore well-fitted, stylish suits, but they were in colors that popped like pastels and deep mauve. She never wore sneakers except when about to exercise, and people knew she was coming when they heard her clacking heels echoing in the halls. The lines about her were softer, and so was her face, round and more youthful than many others her age. She was strict yet smiled often. She regularly offered to bring Rumi, Mira, and Zoey snacks and even stopped by to visit trainees to drop off comfort food. Rumi liked Aera, but Aera wasn’t Celine. “Nothing recently,” said Mira, standing loosely to Rumi’s right. “Yeah,” Zoey agreed from Rumi’s left. “Not much movement since…” - Or, Rumi learns to keep going. Celine had blood on her hands. That much was true since the day she was born. Her older brother, Min-ho had been perfect. At least, in her eyes, there was no one more perfect than him. Min-ho was her anchor, her quiet protector, the person she always went to when the girls in school teased her about her long and narrow face. “Horse!” The girls used to yell at her in the halls, and the words cut through her like knives. “Your face isn’t small or pretty, it’s so long!” They had been in elementary school, so it was only later in life that Celine understood that children could be so malicious. The girls at her school didn’t know any better, and neither did she. But that did not stop how much the comments had bothered her. - Or, Celine makes a choice.

He glared at his father who now stood before him with an earnest look on his face that made him want to puke. It was too desperate, and Felix despised him for it. “This is a fruitless quest,” Felix spat. His whole body vibrated with anger. He clenched his fists at his sides, the tips of his fingernails digging into his palms. “Dimitri is dead! You saw what was left behind.” - Or, Felix is forced on a desperate quest to search for Dimitri after believing he is dead.
