Sleep deprived, eyes heavy, thoughts tangled. Everywhere she went, glimpses of herself appeared—in windows, screens, and even puddles. Each reflection seemed to hold their gaze a beat to long. Sounds muffled, colors muted. Her heartbeat echoed in her ears, palms damp with cold sweat.

Sweat and blood mingled on her face, tears tracing icy paths down her cheeks. Exhaustion weighed upon her; every muscle ached in the biting cold. Standing firm against the relentless storm, snow stung her skin like needles. Her breath came in ragged gasps, visible in the frigid air.

I call it the blues. Since I was a kid, fragments of what could be slip past me, fading into nothingness. They’re usually blue outlines of people trailing from their owners, or trees swaying in a different direction.

I wake to a blinding light piercing my eyes. I try to blink, but my eyelids won't move. The intense brightness burns, then dims as the light shifts away.
"Oops, sorry about that," a cheerful voice says.
A round face appears above me—rosy cheeks, squinted eyes, a warm smile.
