Its disappointing seeing reviewers of retro stuff still regurgitate this talking point. These people really should know better at this point.

It’s actually crazy how hyped up enemy ai was as like the final frontier for good game design in the 2000s, and how basically no one talks about it anymore.

You can really see how much Tim doesn't care about the art by the fact that his own storefront doesn't sell any of his old games. And that Fortnite the biggest collab whore out there, never does anything with the old Epic properties

I wouldn't worry about it. Anyone who has ever played Klonoa 2 upscaled knows thats what it looks like.

I also dont think it helps that the trend in a lot of them has been to make the character smaller. Like Samus in Super Metroid is huge, but then you look at Ori and Hollow Knight and they are tiny, making the world huge.

I still have no idea how they got away with taking the generic scientist and body guard faces from 1 and pretending they were characters. Like what other game has gaslit you into remembering not real characters before

I think your advice is pretty good, like dont torture yourself if you are hard stuck. But its definitely worth trying to not resort to save states, which seems to only becoming a bigger problem with how widespread the fucking rewind button is (unironically the worst thing to happen to old games)

The trick to the final mission is to literally fly by both Nineballs. Do not even attempt to fight them, just keep moving and its surprisingly smooth sailing after the platforming section from hell

Oh hell yeah have been super looking forward to this translation!

It probably didn't help that in Fusion you can just ledge grab, while in Zero Mission its an item you have to pick up early on that is basically like "You can finally actually go places now." It isn't just a small help to the player, the level design requires you to do it

I knew it lmao. That game really abuses it, I think it was a big side effect of them wanting the original level design in a lot of spots while also wanting to keep that heavy snappy movement of Fusion. On those long vertical shafts where you ledge grab like every single platform it sucks so bad

Metroid Zero Mission did this to you didn't it

I'm assuming he is talking about how the game design is very mobile driven. Its more about doing tons of micro short challenges instead of just settling in to play through full courses.

I legitimately think they do it to tempt you to buy the games your friends are playing. Like when I got addicted to Kenshi for a month so many people messaged me about it just from seeing the notification pop up so much on their end.

Save states are rad with the right amount of self control, but emulators adding rewind buttons is a fucking travesty.
