With the Supreme Court’s ruling on Texas’ age verification law, more states will likely follow.

Without federal action, this will create a confusing patchwork of rules. Congress must step in now to ensure a clear, balanced approach nationwide.

With all the handwringing over the $42 billion Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program, it’s important to remember private ISPs have invested the equivalent of 2 BEAD programs every year since it was enacted—and the US ranks near the top for broadband quality. itif.org/publications...

3/3 But Taiwan’s relative performance in the computers & electronics industry has peaked. Its 2020 LQ of 8.79 was down from 10.31 in 2013, reflecting strong competition from China—and now the #CHIPSAct is spurring reshoring opportunities for the US.
December 19, 2023 at 5:58 PM
2/ Taiwan is a superstar in computers & electronics (including #semiconductor #manufacturing). Its LQ in 2020 was 8.79, meaning its value-added output was nearly 9x the size-adjusted global avg. It also over-performed in 6 other strategic industries.
December 19, 2023 at 5:57 PM
🥇 @itif.org's #HamiltonIndex shows how China dominates advanced industries in terms of global market share. But in relative terms, #Taiwan is the winner: It produces more than twice the global average value-added output as a share of its economy. 🧵
December 19, 2023 at 5:57 PM
6/ As of 2020, China was the world’s leading producer in 7/10 #HamiltonIndex industries. But that’s not to say other nations aren’t prospering. On a relative basis, Taiwan, Korea, and many others also over-perform.
December 13, 2023 at 8:39 PM
5/ It would be one thing if China’s performance in these industries was proportional to the size of its economy. But
ITIF uses “location quotients” (LQ) to show China punches 47% above its weight, whereas the US is 13% below average.
December 13, 2023 at 8:36 PM
4/ Non-OECD nations as a bloc have gained substantial global market share in #HamiltonIndex industries—but China has accounted for most of those gains. Other non-OECD nations have gained table comparative scraps.
