We’re all off to bed now - six hours till the Ashes start! See you there! What hashtag are we using so we can find each other, or is it just whoever’s awake at that time (cricket nuts and Aussies)?

I’m particularly gratified by the mention of the U5s and U6s training sessions I help to set up this summer.

Next up: the Ashes!

Here’s a desktop background of the England squad for you.

C’mon ump, it’s pitch black at Headingley now! #yorkvdur 🏏

Finally made it to Wormsley for the Lords Taveners game between @zeroduckspod.bsky.social and @finalwordcricket.bsky.social. If anyone else is around, I’m the one exposing myself (aka breastfeeding, but that sounds less racy).

Well the baby slept well tonight and potentially I could have got a full night’s sleep, except this guy showed up at 4am. He’s too big to catch in a glass, so he’s staying.

Today’s idyllic cricket ground is Abinger Hammer in Surrey. We’re picnicking and paddling, which is rather cooler than 50 overs in the field.

Me: Chores done, now I can have a nice relaxing sit down.
Cat: Nope, my sofa now.

Club cricket. The 1st XI are playing on the main ground but there is a bigger audience for the kids-and-parents game on the astroturf. (Parents handicapped by having to hold a pint in one hand, as is traditional.)

Hanging out with my Bluesky buddies.

He thinks he could take a magpie. This was last year, when they were nesting nearby and constantly following him around when he was outside.

#proofofcat #catsofbluesky This troublemaker decided to climb a tree today. He thinks he’s so fierce and wild.

Apparently 3 years ago today I was watching a Test match at Lord’s. I have no recollection of this at all, don’t know who it was against or why I was there. Did I go on my own? No idea.

This dredged up memories of visiting friends as a student and childhood holidays that I’d not thought about for years.

Shame the Channel Islands are missing, and if there was a “have ancestors who lived in” category I’d have most of the map covered.

Erm, are we really celebrating “pride” with three trans flags when trans people have been explicitly excluded from cricket at every level by the ECB?

Urgh, I hate days like this.

Daniel Hogg has lovely shiny hair. I could see him as the next Brylcreem cricketer. #durham #durvsom

Cat on lap, cricket on TV/radio. Small moment of contentment. #countycricket #proofofcat

@martycricket.bsky.social It if’s Colly’s birthday tomorrow, that means it’s 11 years since I got a photo with him at a very rainy Trent Bridge. This is still the profile picture on my computer because I can’t work out how to change it (despite being several computers further on).

So apparently Surrey women are playing a T20 in Guildford on Friday, but there’s no sign of it on The Cricketer wall chart. Were these scheduled after the rest of the season?
May 20, 2025 at 5:19 PM
Do I have a nice recent picture of my cat? *checks photo roll* Turns out I have very little else.

@martycricket.bsky.social Regarding your chat the other day about early cricket matches, this popped up in a local Facebook group about the first recorded women’s match, on 26th July 1745. It was at what is now Bramley CC, about 5 miles from Peper Harrow.
