YLE (Finland’s public broadcaster) reports that Russia is training kindergarten-age children abducted from Ukraine as soldiers. How much lower can Russia sink? No morals, no sense. Pure Nazi Germany vibes under Putin’s dictatorship.

Autumn and cool air have arrived, but there’s peace here. I’m grateful for your posts. They give me strength and remind me how much suffering and injustice there is in the world, and how much power there is to overcome them. The photo shows autumn colors that already hint at new spring and warmth.

Sometimes it’s good just to be — to take in everything around you. Peace and quiet.

Valopolku 2025 brings a bit of light to the darkening autumn. This year’s theme: “Planet Earth as a spaceship.” Light artworks — some with sound — set in the ever-important Finnish forest.

It’s +12 °C here — surprisingly warm for this time of year. Looks like it’ll continue next week, too. The rain has stopped. Here’s a view from my yard a couple of days ago — leaves still on the trees.

My first video game was Donkey Kong, bought as a souvenir from my Canary Islands trip in 1984. It was a hit at home thanks to its handy size and addictive gameplay. This pic’s from Wikipedia — my daughter (30y) wanted to play it a couple of years ago and has it now. Not bad for an old game, I’d say🤩

View from my doorstep: I’ve always loved the forest and its peace, and here I get to enjoy it in the city. It brings back autumn walks with my late😢 beloved dog, in crisp air and rustling leaves. In Russia they say a man cries only twice—when his mother dies and when his dog dies. Close for me.

Left: “Uuuhh urrghh uhhmm eh”

Center: “…and then we put a piece of cheese there and a couple of mice to compete for it…”

Right: “For fuck’s sake, every trip I have to be embarrassed out of my mind with that asshole!”

A day at the Sara Hildén Art Museum before its exhibition break. On view is a selection from the foundation’s own collection spanning the years. The museum’s minimalist concrete architecture gives art the space to shine – and frames serene views of the lake that can be admired through its windows.

Classics never die — so while we’re on the subject, here’s the two-euro coin making an appearance yet again.

Yep, summer is drawing to a close. The boats are pulled ashore, and we head out for walks warmly dressed, to admire the cold, clear autumn light in the quiet landscape.

The first whispers of autumn drift through the air. With a trace of longing, I find myself already reminiscing about the summer evenings at the lakeside cottage.

A fine afternoon at Tampere Hall. All right, I admit it, I haven’t been much of a Van Gogh fan, but this immersive exhibition changed my view of him. I think I might buy a few of his works for my wall. I wonder how much they cost… yikes!!! Maybe I’ll settle for prints. Small ones.

Sometimes it’s just good to put the phone aside, sit by the lake without thinking about anything, and enjoy the peaceful sound of silence.

In the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park lies one of Lapland’s "secret" hiking destinations: the red sand beach of Lake Pallasjärvi. In this fragile Arctic environment, a unique beach tinted red by iron invites visitors for a swim. Even on the hottest summer days, a refreshing dip is guaranteed.

There it is, a lone sock. Damn sock goblin struck again. I checked the drum and the sleeves and pant legs of the other laundry, no sign of its pair. And it’s not the first time. I’m damn sure there’s an evil spirit living inside that washing machine, feeding on my socks.

I visited one of Finland’s forgotten gems over the weekend — the Finnish Motorcycle Museum in Lahti. It’s definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. While you're there, you can also enjoy a delicious burger meal at the Ace Cafe, the first one outside the UK.
