I get the whole "Optimus" thing was trying to save power switching between integrated and discrete GPUs, but in practice a) I don't use this system on battery much and b) mucking around launching individual apps on the Nvidia GPU is silly when the desktop as a whole is stuttering.

(where you pick /dev/dri/card0 or /dev/dri/card1 or whatever as the one that is the actual discrete graphics card, as opposed to the internal Intel one on the CPU)
