Just sayin...I read a lot of "America is this great thing" and that absolutely does not match what I see living in it.
A note on the way politicians end their heartwarming stories about America with "this is America" after claiming we stand united, we stand strong, or we stand together. The real America is quite different. It's the world's largest prison population and eugenics based on law, it's enforced poverty and wage slavery, it's genocide and funding genocide, it considers you a replacement and your kids your replacements and does so so that it never has to sacrifice maximum profit for a human life, it's housing crises, gun violence crises, drug crises. America is owned by the NRA, KKK, and corporate special interests, it's foreign funded because spending even one penny of Corpo profit to give the people any social safety isn't the American way. Enslaving us to the basic necessities of life is.

Of the 3 cases out of more than 200 studied, mass peaceful protests helped in 3. They did not topple the regime with 3.5% peaceful protests, even though in those examples the protests were sustained, militant, and occupied the capital.

We're not winning, because we think winning a couple of court cases equals winning a war when the enemy of progress and the free world amasses greater power and control every single day, rapidly advancing the goal of being irremovable by non-violent means and protected against violent ones.

The other day a magat posted a pic of the fascist’s ideal women; blonde hair, blue eyes-you know how it goes, and suggested that if “illegals” looked like them Leftist women would be forming SS squads. So, funny, I responded, if “illegals” looked like that he wouldn’t call them illegal. I then suggested he would demand the right to sexually assault them, Trump style. It wasn’t nice. I wasn’t nice. It wasn’t meant to be nice. But I am ashamed. Because that wasn’t nearly as clever as pointing out that their speculation was hollow in light of the fact that because they didn’t look like that, he and his kind did form SS death squads.

When a magat says they want to make America great again ask them which part they're so excited to have back; the slavery, the open racism, the no rights for women, the religious zealotry, the global dictatorship, the genocide... Make them say it out loud.
I think it’s amazing that not only was the USA able to almost completely fool its own people, but it had the world thinking it was an allied nation, a free country, a land incorruptible, the great experiment (there’s no proof it was actually called that), the shining city on a hill. But when you look at the history and recent history of the country it’s a different story. To start, the pilgrims (a religious term) who sailed for a new land did so because Britan wasn’t religiously persecuting people for music and dancing as those people, who believed that music and dancing are sins, wanted. That didn’t change much. Remember how insane republicans went about AOC happily dancing while in college? Well, it’s only been 250 years. I guess holding onto draconic ideas about religion is to be expected. It wasn’t the nation that freed slaves, its leaders adopted slavery and never gave it up. Have a look at the for-profit prison population, the disparity between justice for Black people and white people, and the 13th amendment that lets America make slaves of prisoners and you see the bigger picture. But it was much more successful in its creation of slavery based on economic status and the ever-expanding wealth gap between the morbidly wealthy and those forced to live hand to mouth. I guess there will never be enough progress away from a past of slave holding for the leaders of the USA to give it up. When those settlers landed here women had no right to vote, to choose, to defend ourselves, to self-govern. I guess the few decades of women having rights was just too much for the offspring of white, misogynistic, slave holding, religious zealots, and the Nazis they saved from persecution after the end of WWII, because after just over 50 years, women no longer have the right to self-govern, and our right to vote is being taken away, soon to be followed by our voices altogether. What defines true patriotism?
Why aren't Germans patriotic? Germans ARE patriotic. In America you show patriotism by attaching a full size US flag on your pickup truck (or confederate flag for alternative patriotism) singing the national anthem before every baseball game and sending 18 year olds to Iraq so you can later thank them for their service when they roll by you in their wheelchair in Walmart. In Germany we show patriotism by voting for higher taxes on ourselves to make healthcare and college tuition universally available to our less fortunate fellow citizens, and by picking up after one another to keep public spaces clean and nice for everyone. I guess it gets lost in translation.
