Does the City’s code amendment provide any protections beyond those already guaranteed by HB 3265?

GSA locations adjacent to City buildings would force the City into a direct security/livability situation with protestors. It’s harder to ignore air horns, bull horns and standoffs happening on your street. But these are random thoughts I’m gaming out for their reasoning to abandon the facility.

The existing ICE facility on Macadam is a poor location for the Feds to secure long term. They would be better served unloading the property onto the City, with their agents operating out of other GSA properties nearby. Detention would be bypassed altogether and detainees sent straight to NWIPC.

Is PPB going to show more cooperation now that Day and Noem met face to face?

I’m more curious what was said during the meeting between PPB Chief Day and Noem.

Any update about what PPB Chief Bob Day discussed with Noem and Lewandowski? PPB is currently enforcing a 2 block exclusion zone for all pedestrians in front of the ICE facility.

How much did this junket cost the City?

The first I heard about it was in relation to the misconduct allegations laid against Prosper Portland’s brand new Executive Director, Cornell Wesley.

Livestreams show PPB is still enforcing a large ”no protest” zone in front of the ICE facility, stretching from Macadam to Bond along Bancroft.

PPB cleared the streets and rolled out the red carpet. Not a protestor anywhere on the sidewalk in front of the ICE facility.
