I think it looks great. And I think GW is doing a much better job of showing what achievable paint jobs by real people look like.
We've both been around long enough to remember when their guides were basically:
1. Base coat
2. Wash
3. Finish to Golden Demon standard

Agreed. Same thing happens with Heresy. 98% of HH players are greybeards who appreciate very high quality hobby and have no patience for 40K competitiveness. But at every event there's that one guy...
At AdeptiCon this is mitigated by offering prizes for anything BUT winning games.

I always thought it included a chain, but my source for this is playing the OG Castlevania when I was eight. I'm not sure this would pass peer review, now that I think about it.

I've done this, mostly for higher end minis (GD for example). It worked for me. Looking forward to seeing this finished - the GSC range is one of GW's best imo.

What if we make it a mini-weekend? A Weekend Warmup, if you will. Then we can extend that into Tuesday and Thursday. We can all show up on Monday and Friday to do actual work, ably assisted by all the robots and AIs that are going to make our lives easier and more productive, right?

Glorious! This is secretly why games like Necromunda & Kill Team exist. Same for Allies mechanics.
You start with just a few models you like, then just a couple of squads as allies. Before you know it you've an 18,000 point collection and you're doing lines of resin dust off James Workshop's belly.
