Oh, thank you! I hadn’t seen this.

It's scary how quickly basic human rights can be reversed and destroyed overnight. The EHRC guidelines on bathrooms is crazy: trans people can only use the bathroom of their sex assigned at birth. Unless that makes people uncomfortable, in which case they can use a unisex bathroom (if available).

I had a mental health episode after Trumps second win, as I couldn’t accept that things had degenerated so far, so Dutton getting defeated in a landslide was a huge victory. Thank goodness for compulsory and preferential voting to put restrictions on the rise of extremism here. Hanson can fuck off

It's sadly why politics can be slow and bureaucratic. If you go too big too fast, you run the risk of making a mistake that ruins the lives of millions of people. Sometimes you have to make slow steps so that you can iron out the kinks before the next step. The USA is a great case study for this

I should also add that I'm in Stephen Bates district, and I really liked him, but I was still frustrated with the direction of the party

In the end, you say that the Greens negotiate, but Labor doesn't, where after the past few years, I say the opposite. This is my first time voting Labor, and I'd happily go back, but I've gotten frustrated with them to the point where I wanted them to get out of the way and let good bills pass.

They do make changes and negotiate, but some things can't be done now, but require future planning. ie Dental in Medicare can't be done now, as it requires setting up the infrastructure, but that can only be done with incremental upgrades to Medicare. But if you block the upgrades, it won't happen

Hell, Labor is actively considering expanding Medicare to cover Transgender Healthcare and Trans Surgeries, but given their recent history, I expect they'd try to block the expansion if it doesn't cover dental. I do hope they take the time to reflect and understand, and change their strategy

There's several exciting and progressive policies that Labor is tying to implement (like the HAFF, their first home buyer policies, Future Made In Australia, etc) that I want to see, but Green's keep getting in the way, and seem unable to accept that some bills require seeding before expanding
May 4, 2025 at 11:49 AM
Largely because that's it, "framing", and a lot of "holding Labor accountable". Rather than use their expansion in the house to work with Labor to pass bills and make an impact, they keep being obstructionist if the bill isn't "perfect" and doesn't include everything that they want.

I won't
May 3, 2025 at 12:21 PM
As a former Green's voter, I'm incredibly disappointed with their recent behaviour, hopefully this will be a wake-up call
May 3, 2025 at 12:20 PM
I'm normally a Greens voter, but this was one of the factors why I voted Labor this time as I didn't want to risk Dutton, but I've also been pissed off with how obstructionist the Greens (and Max Chandler-Mather especially) have been recently, obstructing multiple really good Labor policies

When they become available, you need to watch clips where they questioned Jacinta Price about it and whether her embrace of Trump had an impact. It was absolutely brutal and her response was hilariously appalling
May 3, 2025 at 12:07 PM
Hopefully not, although I suspect this is the desired end goal of some groups pushing the “vote independent and minor party” movement
