Jannis Jost has been working in the nexus of online media and radicalization for quite a while, see the linked 2015 article by him.

He has since lead two large research projects on AI use for radicalization detection, ERAME ⬇️ www.sifo.de/sifo/sharedd...) and ERAME-REX ⬇️ www.sifo.de/sifo/sharedd....
Neuer Terrorismus und Neue Medien - Zeitschrift für Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik
Since the 1990s, terrorists use the internet for their purposes. It has provided them with all new possibilities for propaganda, recruitment, radicalization, funding, and planning. Instead of hosting their own websites, terrorists nowadays increasingly and strategically exploit the New Media. They offer an excellent infrastructure for free and enable terrorists to reach a global audience. This article describes the terrorist use of the three major social-media-services – Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube – and the underlying intends. Special attention is given to content related to Germany.

Here’s an article on the field by my colleague Jannis Jost, who leads the work on terrorism and radicalization studies at our instute, ISPK.
(Our acronym being the same as that of a certain islamist 🥷 group is an unfortunate, if somewhat amusing coincidence.)
