Striking chart that helps to explain how electricity prices can remain high, despite the increase in renewables. In four European countries including GB, gas was the marginal fuel for more than 80% of the time in 2021, meaning gas price (rather than renewable) set the electricity price.

Electricity bills would be higher without wind power.

While electricity costs are largely determined by wholesale gas prices, wind is increasingly driving costs down.
