the only possible conclusion has to be some kind of deus ex machina (pun not intended), which didn't feel very satisfying.
Have you read the sequels? I think I read somewhere they're very different from the first book. Do you feel the overall plot has a satisfying conclusion?

Oh, I just finished this recently! It deserves all the praise it gets, the world building and the characters are amazing! Some of those images will haunt me forever 🫠

Beyond that, I also got a tense and very creepy and unsettling story about faith, myth, trust, survival, class struggle, personhood, all skillfully combined.
The ending left me a bit confused but maybe my faith is just not strong enough 😅

I also really liked the psychological insights into the protagonist's mind.
The last third of the book did feel a bit rushed, but this didn't spoil my enjoyment in any way.
