... at which point the National Review can dutifully hand-wring about how good old-fashioned bootstrap pulling is all that's needed, not some high-minded government program that costs billions, and in the meantime, 100% of homeless people can continue to suffer to satisfy the National Review.

~582,000 homeless people in the US in 2022 according to HUD. About 7% of that: 40,740 people.

But sure, we can tell all of those people they have to wait until a silver bullet program is developed that will fix the problems of the other 93% of homeless people...

Leaving aside the fact that an opinion piece about a government program in the National Review is not exactly an objective source of truth, let's consider what would happen if "only" 7% of the homeless people in America suddenly... weren't homeless.

In my scenario, we would know that giving the medication to *some* people would be useless. But we would still keep it as an option to use for the group it's effective for.

Imagine discounting something because it "only" solves the problem for 7% of the people who have that problem.

If we discovered a cancer drug that, say, 80% cured lung cancer in women, but was no better than a placebo on men... would you really be there saying, "Oh, it doesn't work for everybody, we probably should just discard this treatment?"

Seems like the guys with the suits are far more corrupt, my guy. Maybe that dress code isn’t so valuable.

Ah yes, the teachings of Christ, famously known for their strong endorsement of formal dress. “None shall enter the kingdom of heaven but through me… or a nice made to measure suit.”

My friend, it's not trolling to point out to you that your individual experiences do not make a compelling case for "why everybody needs to dress the way I think they should."

Think on it, just for me.

Seems like life is trying to teach you a lesson right now. The million dollar question is - will you learn from it?
September 24, 2023 at 3:10 AM
Sounds like a you problem, not a "nobody else is dressing up," problem, frankly.

“My experiences are obviously universal, and can be generalized onto everybody.”

I mean, cool.

Companies say a lot of self serving bullshit. Pretty sure you’ve swallowed somebody’s press release hook, line, and sinker, which suggests a somewhat sizable degree of unseriousness.

I don’t care about their appearances, I care about their performance of their duties. If they wish to wear a suit, or a sweatshirt, I don’t much care, so long as they are competent.

Tradition has merits if the tradition has a purpose that is still relevant to the era. If it’s not relevant, then it’s simply cargo cult nonsense that reactionaries are clinging to because they’re scared of change.

Is the “something to be said,” that it’s a silly, arbitrary, meaningless standard?

“I don’t care if my banker spends all my money on hookers and blow, as long as he’s wearing a snazzy suit,” is just a bizarre take.

How many people followed his lead and have joined the ranks of the disabled?

Seems like there might be some room here for criticism that doesn’t paint Trump as some kind of defender of inclusion and allyship.
