My late grandfather (left), ascended to the rank of Colonel in USMC. At one point during the Vietnam war he was the CO of MCRD in San Diego—the height of mass recruiting. A big task. He was so tender to his grandkids but you know he saw some shit! WW2, Korea, Vietnam. His brother on the right.
