Busy week for me. Last night I had a Zoom call with a researcher from CBS 60 Minutes then back to working on the book. More writing tonight then guest on a podcast tomorrow night. Also answered a stack of emails from people who have been kind enough to come forward with info. 🗃️

Yes. It was as a result of things not going so well for the Germans and they wanted to control news flow. Also wanted to avoid allies being able to prime local population for any attempt to retake the islands.

I have stopped adding to the latest blog post as I keep tinkering with it and it is getting rather long, 30 pages if you PDF it! Suspect it might shrink a bit when @katieci.bsky.social

If you are reading Rowland White's excellent book 'Mosquito' there is reference to Op. Basalt. I have a write up with photos and video of the 80th Anniversary and reenactment on my blog which may be of interest. This was a commando raid on Sark. 🗃️

One of the problems with evacuating the women & children first was it was difficult for some of the men that followed on later to locate their families. As shown by this article from July 1940. A Guernseyman sought the help of a newspaper to locate his wife and daughter. 🗃️
